Memorial BAJA
Memorial Baja
MUN Baja is a student design team at Memorial University. Our goal is to build a single seat, off-road vehicle to compete in a series of competitions against other universities across North America.
Steering Overhaul
In 2019, to increase steering sensitivity & increase vehicle responsiveness, we re-designed the steering drive system.
Starting with positive Ackermann geometry, the steering system was overhauled. Work included new helical rack and pinion, new tie-rods, and new-to-us knuckle assembly.
Rear axle steering is designed to as electrically actuated as a variable fraction of the front axle input. This was not implemented due to cost constraints.
Chassis Overhaul
To incorporate 4WS & 4WD according to new team objectives, we needed a new, larger chassis. This chassis design includes a sub-floor tunnel, to package the transfer case, drive shafts and differentials.
Baja Team Co-Lead:
Main goal as co-lead was to increase member retention to save a dying team. I focused on making it a 'fun' design process, where we could all learn while designing together. This increased member count & member retention significantly.
